Introduction

Climate Change is a cross-sector, cross-domain subject which has far reaching socio-economic and cultural impacts across the globe. As a member of the global village, Hong Kong, China needs to respond positively and ready itself for making greater effort to combat climate change.

The Government pledged a new target of reducing 5% electricity consumption in government buildings over the next five years from 2015 to 2020 using 2013-14 as the base year. Major new government buildings and public housing are targeted to achieve a higher green building standard. Moreover, the Government has established a partnership with major stakeholders in the built environment under the 4Ts framework, namely target, timeline, transparency and together.

Energy Saving Championship 2017 is the extension of Energy Saving Championship 2016 (Results have been announced. Please click here for details). 4Ts elements are added in the assessment criteria. Participants are encouraged to set their energy saving targets and timelines and to share their existing and planned energy saving measures. The scopes of categories are expanding to commercial building/industrial building, hospital, hotel, office, shop/restaurant/supermarket, non-governmental organisation.

Your Support

As the community plays an indispensable role when it comes to energy conservation, we would like to appeal for supports from different sectors of organisations by participating in the "Energy Saving Championship Scheme 2017" (the Scheme) and setting targets to reduce their energy consumption comparable to or even exceeding Government targets, and to promote green building design and management.

The Scheme is to recognise leading organisations in the adoption of energy efficient technologies and equipment, application of operational optimisation of energy consuming systems (i.e. retro-commissioning), development of best practices in energy management, promotion of energy saving among tenants and occupants and develop a plan for future energy saving target. Champions of each category will be invited as role models to share experience on application of energy efficient technologies and practices through visits or seminars for the trades.

We look forward to the concerted efforts of the Government and the community in promoting a healthy, liveable and sustainable environment in Hong Kong, China.
