Registration Period

1 August 2017 to 31 October 2017


Eligibility

All premises located in Hong Kong, China with their core business fulfilling the definition of respective category are eligible to apply for the Scheme. Each premise is limited to enter into one category only.


Categories

As the community plays an indispensable role when it comes to energy conservation, we would like to appeal for supports from different sectors of organizations by participating in the Scheme. Different categories of the Scheme are listed below:-

Group 1 categories

  1. Shopping mall
  2. Residential building/ Housing estate
  3. Office/ Commercial/ Industrial building
  4. Hospital
  5. Hotel
  6. Post-Secondary education institution

  1. Office
  2. Shop/ Restaurant/ Supermarket
  3. Non-governmental Organization/ Community Facility
  4. School (Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary)

Registration

The registration period is from 1 August 2017 to 31 October 2017 tentatively. Participating premises are required to submit completed application forms for registration and subsequent assessment. Please complete the application form and return by mail or email. Applicant will receive acknowledgment via email within two weeks upon application.

Personal data collected from application will be used for the assessment of Energy Saving Championship Scheme only. All personal data will be properly handled in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.


Details of Competition

The competition has two stages of assessment. Stage 1 assessment is conducted by the sub-committee nominated by Judging Panels with support by the event secretariat. Assessment is executed based on the information stated in the submissions provided by participating premises according to the assessment criteria as shown in Table 1 and Table 2 below.

Table 1 - Assessment criteria for Group 1 categories of premises
1. Continual energy saving over Two (2) years from 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2017
2. New energy saving target with a timeline and implementation plan(s) to achieve the target
3. Transparency on tracking energy saving results
4. Engaging inhabitants (such as staff/ students/ occupants/ tenants) and the community to work together on energy saving activities
5. Innovation and practicality on energy saving technologies/practices, including following aspects:-
6. Whether the technologies and practices in items (4) to (5) above can be modelled by other organizations in the same sector

Remarks - Item (3) to (5) above also apply for assessing achievements mentioned in item (1) and implementation plan mentioned in item (2)

Table 2 - Assessment criteria for Group 2 categories of premises
1. Continual energy saving over Two (2) years from 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2017
2. New initiatives to save energy by 4Ts approach (see below) and implementation plan, if any
  • Setting energy saving targets with a timeline
  • Engaging inhabitants (such as staff/ students/ occupants) to work together on energy saving activities
  • Transparency on tracking energy saving results
3. Innovation and practicality on energy saving technologies and practices, including following aspects:-
  • signing up Energy Saving Charter 2017 and 4Ts Charter
  • Conducting energy audit and implementing energy management opportunities identified by audit
  • Adopting renewable energy technologies
4. Whether the technologies and practices in item (2) above can be modelled by other organizations in the same sector

Stage 2 assessment is a presentation and interview by Judging Panel. Based on assessment criteria and weighting shown above, the assessment is executed via the use of score sheet solely on the information expressly stated in the participating organization’s submission, assessment report by the Sub-committee and presentation. Judging Panel would grant up to 10 bonus points on the performance of presentation.

Role Models to Help Promoting Energy Saving

All award winning teams of various categories will be invited to share experience as role models through visits/ seminars /exhibitions, etc. Outreach scheme with roving exhibition panels and talks will be arranged to promote energy saving measures as well as share experience of winners.

Video clips on energy saving measures adopted by all award winning teams will be produced and uploaded to the "Energy Saving for All" website for promotion and sharing. List of organisations and their premises participating in the Scheme will be promulgated on the "Energy Saving for All" website for recognition. All submission materials would be used by EMSD for the promotion of energy saving. Prior written consent from the participants would be obtained, should any part of the submission materials be adopted for other purposes.

Award winning teams may be nominated to attend and share experience at international seminars or workshops, such as those organised by the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
