The Chinese Foundation Secondary School

The Chinese Foundation Secondary School has been rewarded Hanson Outstanding Award (Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary) for its solid commitment to promoting green message in the campus. Sustainable development has been incorporated into the school's major concern, its actions and policies are fully supported by the School Management Committee. Under the framework of 4Ts Charter, the school has set a clear timeline for systematic energy saving and ensure the transparency to track energy saving result.

The school campus also adopted various energy saving measure including the replacement of existing split-type air conditioners for 7/F (Library, Campus TV Station, Seminar Room, etc.) and Main Roof by Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRV) system. Solar window control film is applied for special rooms such as Geography Room and library to reduce the use of air-conditioners. For lighting system, fluorescent tubes in the General Office, Tuck Shop, Covered Playground and some special rooms are replaced by LED; remove excess lighting; install motion sensors with existing lighting fixtures. Besides, number of air conditioners can be used in the classroom has been discussed by student representatives and school. Students and teachers are reminded to implement this guideline as a daily practice to reduce unnecessary energy usage.

The school not only pinpoints energy saving but also values all-round development for students. Concepts of energy saving have been infiltrated into the curriculum and activities so as to raise student's awareness of environmental protection. Holistic approach is adopted to nurture students interest and motivation of sustainable development and energy saving. Educational talks from EMSD and universities about energy saving are organized in every year for students refreshments and reminders.
