Queen Mary Hospital

Queen Mary Hospital is the award winner of Hanson Outstanding Award (Hospital). The hospital comprises mainly some historic buildings. Major renovations or revitalisations are being carried out from time to time while normal services are maintained. Hospital's excellent achievement in energy conservation are supported by dedicated maintenance team and consulting members.

Energy saving retrofit has been undertaken for chiller plant and lighting installation including the replacement of existing chiller by high efficiency oil free chiller units and the replacement of constant speed to variable speed water cooled chiller. Motion sensor controls were installed to the lighting systems. In the consideration of thermal comfort and energy consumption, the indoor environment temperature of clinical areas was fine tuned for day mode and night mode. Moreover, the hospital adopted the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) for Block to monitor and control the building's energy needs effectively. Grid PV panels were installed in Block to further reduce energy consumption.

Through the 4Ts Charter hospital has spent continual efforts on engaging staffs in various energy saving activities including Earth Hour 2017 and Hong Kong No Air Conditioning 2017. Energy saving labels were posted at all offices areas to remind staff to switch off the electrical appliances and systems when not in use and maintaining the office indoor temperature at an optimal level. The hospital has also been awarded the Hong Kong Green Organization Certification on carbon reduction actions.
