HSBC Main Building is a famous banking building accommodates general offices and banking hall. The building is facilitated with state-of-the-art building design elements and technologies by the time of establishment, still one of the demonstrative models for modern building design. The building is the winner of Hanson Outstanding Award (Office / Commercial / Industrial Building).
Multiple actions has been undertaken by the management team to improve the energy efficiency of the building as well as including the new requirement of BEC code in all renovation and upgrade work. Variable speed drivers were installed in all air handling units and cooling water main pump meanwhile Lift modernization was undertook. In addition, T8 lighting tubes were replaced by LED.
Apart from technological aspect, the team is also aware of the importance of management in energy conservation. Night audits have been carried out to investigate the potential energy saving areas and the result show a significant energy consumption in the building after office hours. With the support and engagement of occupants, air-conditioning supply will be reduced for 30 minutes for all floors after office hours. Besides, the cleaning team is assigned to walk around and turn off monitors, televisions etc. which significantly reduces energy consumption. The key of the team's success is understanding the building operation thoroughly, night audits are thus strongly recommended to be implemented by others in the industry.
