Harbour City Estates Limited (HCEL) which manages the whole Harbour City complex with a prestige shopping mall complex developed for decades, has won the Energy Saving Championship Scheme 2017 - Hanson Outstanding Award(Shopping Mall) attribute to its excellent performance under challenging operation and maintenance strategies and complex central air-conditioning system.

The Complex has five Central Chiller Plants with different types of Chillers installed at various development phases. In order to avoid unnecessary energy consumption facilities, retrofitting is undergone in different stages by optimizing demand and supply relationship while minimizing the disturbance to daily operation. HECL endeavors towards upgrading the Building Management System (BMS) and installing power analyzers to collect data for energy management and analysis. It also adopts retro-commissioning practice for Chiller Plants and resets chilled water supply temperature to optimize Chiller Plant's performance without sacrificing indoor thermal control.

HCEL also deploys the use of renewable energy to reduce carbon emission by installing the largest commercially installed renewable energy system in Hong Kong including solar photovoltaic panel and solar water heating system on the rooftop of four Gateway Towers to generate electricity and hot water to support daily operations. The achievement of their commitments to environmental protection is widely-reported by the media and can be a role model that demonstrates good practices in energy saving.
