Competition for Household

The Competition aims to promote public participation in Energy Saving and Decarbonisation for All 2023 Campaign towards carbon neutrality before 2050. All households are welcome to join.

Participants should answer some multiple-choice questions and could select to reply to the open-ended question (through an online application form). For the key awards, those who have completed all sections of the form with the open-ended question could compete for the key awards. 250 participants will be selected each month from July to October 2023 for Participation Reward. Each participant shall only join the competition once from July to October 2023. If participants are found to have submitted repeatedly, the organiser will disqualify such participants.

Details of Competition

The competition has two stages of assessment conducted by Judging Panel with support by the event secretariat. Stage 1 assessment is executed based on the information stated in the application submitted by participants according to a dedicated marking scheme with the key assessment criteria including (i) Creativity (25%); (ii) Feasibility (25%); (iii) Energy Saving in Electricity Bills and/or Gas Bills (25%); and (iv) Application of Innovation & Technology (25%). Shortlisted participants are required to submit a copy of their electricity bills and/or gas bills to demonstrate their energy saving.  

Stage 2 assessment is then executed to shortlist the finalists for the Judging Panel to decide the awards.

March 2024 Stage 2 Assessment – shortlisting the finalists by the sub-committee assigned by the Judging Panel
April 2024 Judging Panel Meeting – deciding the awards by the Judging Panel

Competition for Students

The competition for students aims to inspire creativity and imagination in youth towards carbon neutrality before 2050 by energy saving and wider adoption of renewable energy, which comprises two sub-categories as listed below:-

Primary School category

Participants are required to submit completed application form or online application form, together with a drawing (A3 size) with short description.

Secondary and Post-secondary School category

Participants are required to submit completed application form or online application form, together with the following items (one or more) for interpretation of project/ idea:-

There is no limitation on number of participating teams from each school.

Details of Competition

The competition has two stages of assessment conducted by Judging Panel with support by the event secretariat. Stage 1 assessment is executed based on the information stated in the submissions provided by participants according to the assessment criteria as shown below. An interview by Judging Panel in Stage 2 assessment will be conducted for the finalists under Secondary and Post-secondary School category.

Assessment criteria for Competition for Students
1. Demonstrate the innovative idea on EE&C and / or RE initiative or technology
  • Effectiveness and clear expression
  • Logical thinking
  • Easily understood
2. Aesthetic value, application of skills and techniques
  • Clear illustration of ideas.
  • Aesthetic attribute, including illustrations, texts, video clips, photos, etc.
  • Painting skill / use of colour / model making techniques etc.
3. Originality, innovation, scientific, transferability and practicality of the idea of carbon reduction, EE&C and / or RE initiatives

*Bonus mark will be given to applicants who have joined Competition for Household and E&M Young Ambassador (EMYA) activities
