Olympian City 2

Wise Save @ RCx Merit Award

Olympian City (OC), one of the flagship shopping malls of the Sino Group, is committed to promoting environmental protection while utilizing advanced technology to enhance energy efficiency. Through the cloud-based Smart Building Platform (BOS) and big data analytics, along with integrating the existing Building Management System (BMS), the system is fully automated with remote-control features to optimize the central chiller system.

The chiller system of OC2 includes nine chillers of different models, which have been continuously upgraded in recent years to enhance energy efficiency and achieve the Group’s energy-saving goals. The chiller plant retro-commissioning (RCx) project aims to achieve an annual energy saving of about 8% while maintaining indoor thermal comfort and avoiding unnecessary energy consumption.

The International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) approach was utilized in setting up a baseline “Criterion” for controlling the chiller system with the BOS to achieve energy saving targets. This baseline was established using factual data from the past 36 months, including ambient condition, chiller plant energy consumption history and foot traffic data, etc.

We collaborated with the RCx, Innovation and Technologies (I&T) solution provider and utilized data from various sources to establish an energy model. This model includes adjusting the chiller ON/OFF schedule and sequencing based on real-time cooling demands, optimization of chilled water setpoint temperature to achieve maximum cooling part load ratio, automated system monitoring and providing warnings for any abnormal issues, etc. After the project commenced, the annual saving exceeded our preliminary target.

Various parties participated in this project, including our in-house staff, RCx team, I&T solution provider and BMS service provider. They cooperated closely to achieve the energy-saving target. We will continue to look for other options to enhance the efficiency of energy management.
