Environmentally Friendly Flushing System
Hanson Outstanding Award and Best Innovation Award

Heep Yunn School

When asked on ideas to save energy, most of us make an immediate connection to reducing electricity use. Water consumption, for instance by flushing the toilet, is often overlooked in terms of saving energy. The students realised that energy is consumed when water is transported from underground pipes to our flush tanks. With the positive correlation between saving water and saving energy established, they had designed a simple attachment for the flush tank that allows manual control of water flow. The volume of water used is user determined. This small device can achieve similar water-saving results as the dual-flush system, while costing no more than 10 Hong Kong Dollars.

The device is consisted of a pair of strong magnets to push and pull the water shutter. It is designed for both push button type and flapper type flush tanks. During demonstration, the students have successfully saved energy by reducing flushing water with this easy-to-install and easy-to-use device.
