Competition for Organisations

The Competition aims to encourage the trade to work together to enhance energy efficiency and conservation in buildings with the application of retro-commissioning (RCx) and Innovation and Technology (I&T), in order to dedicate their efforts to strive for carbon neutrality. The details of the Competition are listed below:

Each registration is on building-basis and should be submitted by the participating organisation.

Participants are required to submit completed online application form together with corresponding supporting information (e.g., photo, diagram, data record, schematic etc.) via the online platform. Only one (1) registration per building will be accepted. The registration can include:

Details of Competition

The competition has two stages of assessment conducted by Judging Panels with support by the event secretariat. Stage 1 assessment is executed based on the information stated in the submissions provided by participating organisations according to a dedicated marking scheme with assessment criteria as shown in Table 1 below, followed by a finalist interview in Stage 2 assessment.

1. Adoption of Innovation and Technologies
  • Project objective, site installation and key elements of the project
  • Acquire data and conduct data analysis / simulation for visualising current facility operation issue(s) and identifying / proposing ESOs
  • Carry out 1) auto/manual tuning for implementation & 2) continue monitor and assess the performance for on-going commissioning (for implemented project only)
  • Carry out scenario simulation for the ESOs (for proposed project only)
2. Energy Reduction and Project Contribution
  • M&V methodology and conduct M&V (adopt I&T / manual) with data showing improvement before and after implementation of ESOs (for implemented project only)
  • M&V methodology and submit calculation/simulation showing the anticipated improvement before and after implementation of ESOs (for proposed project only)
  • Adopt I&T to enhance / increase energy saving opportunities
3. Performance of Team Work
  • Engage internal team, RCx and/or I&T solution providers to work together
  • Coordination work between various parties
  • Role and responsible of each parties
Stage 2 Assessment
  • Quality of presentation
  • Overall challenges and solutions through I&T of the project
  • Overall benefits and way forward of the project

The registration period is from 1 August to 31 October 2022 tentatively.

Competition for Students

The competition for students aims to inspire the creativity and imagination of young people in achieving carbon neutrality by energy saving and wider adoption of renewable energy, which comprises two sub-categories as listed below:-

Primary School category

Participants are required to submit completed application form or online application form, together with a drawing (A3 size) with short description.

Secondary and Post-secondary School category

Participants are required to submit completed application form or online application form, together with the following items (one or more) for interpretation of project/ idea:-

There is no limitation on number of participating teams from each school.

Personal data collected from application will be used for the purpose of assessment only. All personal data will be properly handled in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.

Details of Competition

The competition has two stages of assessment conducted by Judging Panel with support by the event secretariat. Stage 1 assessment is executed based on the information stated in the submissions provided by participants according to the assessment criteria as shown in Table 2 below. An interview by Judging Panel in Stage 2 assessment will be conducted for the finalists under Secondary and Post-secondary School category.

1. Demonstrate the innovative idea on EE&C and / or RE initiative or technology
  • Effectiveness and clear expression
  • Logical thinking
  • Easily understood
2. Aesthetic value, application of skills and techniques
  • Clear illustration of ideas.
  • Aesthetic attribute, including illustrations, texts, video clips, photos, etc.
  • Painting skill / use of colour / model making techniques etc.
3. Originality, innovation, scientific, transferability and practicality of the idea of carbon reduction, EE&C and / or RE initiatives

Role Models to Help Promoting Energy Efficiency and Conservation

List of organisations and their buildings participating in the Competition will be promulgated on the "Energy Saving for All" website for recognition. Certificates will be presented to winners or winning teams.

Submissions from participating organisations will have the chance to be showcased in the Energy Saving Championship Scheme website or other EMSD’s publicity channels for demonstration of RCx role models. Building name, personal and organisation information and technical data shall be kept anonymous unless consent is obtained from participants.

Award winning teams will be invited to share experience as role models through seminars. They may also be nominated to attend and share experience at regional/international seminars or workshops.
