REC Green Technologies Co., Ltd. develops an Advanced Energy Optimization Solution (EOS) with Artificial Intelligence Algorithms for Energy Saving in Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) System. Building HVAC systems are one of the major causes of high energy use in buildings. To address this issue, the team utilizes existing research on HVAC system optimization and the increasingly popular artificial-intelligence (AI) technologies to create their own energy saving solution for building HVAC systems. The solution uses these technologies to find the best energy saving control settings based on weather conditions and historical performance data of HVAC systems. It also has a full automation control system to always keep HVAC systems under the best control settings.
Although other energy saving solutions have similar features, the team manages to outperform them in two aspects: innovation and practicality. The team develops solutions based on the existing HVAC system modelling principles, three different AI algorithms and full automation technologies to build the framework. These innovative and scientific features help the solution to save more energy than conventional technologies. While advanced technologies are usually considered to be immature and not practical for real applications, the team proves that their solution is practical in real buildings by testing and improving the solution in an operating large hotel. Its use of the advanced AI and full automation technologies in the hotel proves that the solution is innovative, scientific and practical. The team also uses their solution to improve control of systems other than building HVAC systems such as sewage pump systems, demonstrating the potential of the solution to be further developed for other uses.
