The University of Hong Kong - Chow Yei Ching Building

The University of Hong Kong - Chow Yei Ching Building is an educational complex in the campus which accommodates teaching and laboratory facilities. The building is awarded Hanson Excellent Award (Post‐Secondary Education Institution). The campus facilities management team implements energy conservation measures to the building in associated with the frameworks set by the University.

Energy saving performance contract has been adopted for chiller plant replacement and lighting retrofit programme of the building for a few years. The lighting provision at staircases has been replaced with LED lighting. There are strict controls of energy consumption for the auditorium by occupancy status via computerized booking system. Continual review of building energy savings of the retrofits are carried out and Measurement and Verification (M&V) reports are submitted for monitoring of achievement. The overall energy conservation performance of the campus could be revealed in annual Sustainability Management Review Report prepared by the Estate Office.

A green roof is built as thermal insulation of the space under the roof. Occupancy of lecture theatre in the building is subject to a central booking system so that unnecessary energy consumption of building services systems could be avoided.
